Unmasking Expensive Primers with Monistat Chafing Powder-Gel

Smashbox photo finish primer is one of the best products I’ve ever used on my face for all day coverage. It is the best but it is really expensive. Paying $38.00 for a 1oz bottle of primer is really ridiculous when I could buy something that is cheaper and works just the same. If your working a minimum wage job and you love expensive makeup but can’t afford it, try doing some research. For me, Hard Candy is even a litle too pricey for a makeup primer but I normally just suck it up and buy it because $7 or $8 dollars is much better than spending $38.00 at Sephora or Ulta. In any case, I did some research and found a product that works great as a primer and is rather inexpensive.
Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel is available at most department and superstores around your area. Used to relieve chafing skin, Monistat is a cheap and excellent option to the really expensive brands out there. It helps smooth the surface of the skin, including fine lines, wrinkles and pores, allowing your makeup to cover your face more evenly. With that being said, my reader are probably skeptic to use Monistat on their faces. Well, did you know that expensive primers like Smashbox contain Dimethicone 1.2%, which is listed as a skin protectant.
Dimethicone is a silicon based polymer often found in all sorts of cosmetics and hair products. In makeup and face products, it is usually used as a temporary filler for fine lines and wrinkles. It doesn’t help fix them long term just helps temporarily fill them in, until washed off. (http://www.myvanitybasics.com/)
So in essense, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer and other expensive primers out there contain this polymer that is found in a less expensive product. It has the same clear matte finish, it’s ordorless and has no color. Monistat leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft just as any expensive primer would.
Some tips:
1. Make sure you allow the primers or chafing gel to dry before you apply your foundation.
2. Make sure you buy the powder-gel chafing product and not the yeast infection product. They have similar packaging!
Nice to know an inexpensive primer can be just as good. I hate that I spend so much on my smash box primers. Great post. If you are free, would be great if you could check out my blog on http://www.beautypuzzled.wordpress.com x
